    A quarter of beef is approximately 78lbs of burger and depending on the cuts there are 4 roasts and the rest steaks of the finest cuts equal to about 30lbs for $900.00. Prices are subject to change with the market. Please contact us for more details.
  • How much is 1/2 beef and what is included?
    Approx. $1800.00 which would be about 60lbs of steaks and roasts and about 156lbs of hamburger. Prices are subject to change with the market. Please contact us for more details.
  • How much is included in 3/4 beef?
    A 3/4 of beef is approximately 234lbs of burger and depending on the cuts there are 4 roasts and the rest steaks of the finest cuts equal to about 90lbs for $2,700.00. Prices are subject to change with the market. Please contact us for more details.
  • How much is a 1 full beef and what is included?
    Approx. 120 lbs of steaks, roast the finest cuts and 312 lbs of hamburger for $3,600.00. Prices are subject to change with the market. Please contact us for more details.
  • What size do the packs of lean hamburger come in?
    Usually they come in 1.5lb packages - but ask about getting 1lb packages!
  • How is The Big Sombrero's meat so tender?
    The beef is aged 14-18 days to allow for the best taste and tenderness possible.
  • How does it work if I want to split with a friend or family member?
    You and some of your friends/family can purchase a live beef together and split it however you prefer (halves, Quarters,etc...) or sometimes we have others that have inquired about splitting a live beef and are waiting for someone else to split it with.
  • What is the diet of the cows?
    The diet consists primarily of corn, corn silage, hay and distillers.
  • Is there a shop open to the public? How do I order?

  • How lean is your hamburger?
    It is very lean, we would say it is like about 85%-95%. Typically is around 95%.
  • What is the age of the cow at death?
    These are 18 month old prime finished steers.
  • I read something about customizing cuts, what does that mean?"
    Animals are always being processed so there is customized cut lists available to those who wait a while longer on processing. Steaks are cut 1.5 inches thick, ribeyes, t-bones, sirloins, and porterhouse.
  • How fast can I get my ordered beef?
    We schedule 4 beef per month to be processed so this is a 1st come 1st serve basis. We can always fit a few more in, but keep in mind this takes 3 weeks from the farm to your freezer! Please always ask about our avalibility. It can change based on our processor/demand.
  • Can I just order certain packages of hamburger/steaks/roasts?
    You can only order 1/4 - 1/2 - full cuts or you can order by the lb. Please ask for pricing or check out our homepage.
  • I want to order, but I don't know if it will fit in my freezer!"
    1/4 is approx. 78lbs of beef & approx. 30lbs of steaks and roasts priced at approx. $700 — [this lb approx. can change depending on if you customize your cuts or not!] **Picture this in an upright freezer for a visual of what a 1/4 of beef takes up for room — dimensions were 28'' wide X 15'' Height X 16'' Depth.** You also can split with a friend or family member. Just let us know!
